Anton Roche, 2024 CLAS Student Excellence Award

Professor Hannah Alarian nominated Anton for the CLAS Student Excellent Award. Here’s Dr. Alarian’s nomination statement:

I am thrilled to nominate Anton Roche for consideration for the CLAS Student Excellence Award. Anton exceeds all criteria for this award. He fully embodies and embraces the spirit of a liberal arts and sciences education, with aspirations to make a measurable impact in public health policy by continuing his education at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health next fall. Anton is graduating from UF this Spring with a 3.9 GPA with dual Bachelor’s degrees in Biochemistry and Political Science. He has excelled in courses throughout our college. He has a commitment to interdisciplinary research, as evidenced by his dual degree bridging the liberal arts and humanities with the sciences, including coursework in Political Science, Chemistry, English, and Junior Honors in Climate Change. Anton has a substantial academic engagement commitment, including completing a Political Science Honor’s Thesis (High Honors expected), acting as an undergraduate researcher and peer mentor within the Political Behavior Lab, completing research assistance within the Bowden Analytical & Environmental Chemistry Lab, presenting his original research at national Chemistry conferences, and as a peer grader in a Political Science course (Applied Political Behavior). Anton has also contributed significantly to the life of the broader UF and Gainesville communities, organizing and participating in multiple community events as President of the Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society. Anton is the clearest example of the mission of our college, representing the best, brightest, and most committed of our Gator Nation.
