Andrew Janusz's research and teaching focus primarily on racial politics and elections in Latin America. His current book project examines how institutional and social factors that hinder Afro-Brazilian politicians from winning public office, as well as the policy consequences of unequal representation. His work has been published in journals including Electoral Studies, Party Politics, the Latin America Research Review, and Politics Groups and Identities.
