Ryan Welch’s research and teaching interests intersect International Relations and Comparative Politics, with a particular focus on human rights, political violence, and the institutions that hold governments accountable. His work examines how international and domestic institutions shape government behavior, including research on national human rights institutions, international law, repression, and police militarization. His work has been published in International Studies Quarterly, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, Journal of Human Rights, Research and Politics, Conflict Management and Peace Science, International Interactions, Journal of Global Security Studies, Politics and Policy, and other outlets.
