Baba Adou is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science at the University of Florida whose research examines how jihadist insurgencies reshape state–religion relations across the African Sahel and the Maghreb. His dissertation compares Mali and Mauritania through original fieldwork, including interviews and primary data collection, as well as historical analysis. His publications include work in POMEPS Studies, the Africa Yearbook, and Afrobarometer. Adou has also contributed to democracy and governance projects with V-Dem, Freedom House, and the Bertelsmann Transformation Index. Before beginning his Ph.D., he gained more than six years of university-level teaching experience in Mauritania.
